PLANT:
- Delosperma sphalmanthoides was described by South African botanist Steven A. Hammer. The plant forms compact mats of succulent foliage, and it is characterized by its small, triangular leaves that are often covered in tiny, glistening, water-storage cells.
D. sphalmanthoides produces vibrant flowers. The flowers can range in color, typically exhibiting shades of purple, pink, or white. They have a daisy-like appearance and add to the overall ornamental appeal of the plant.
- Water Needs: Low; drought-tolerant. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
- Light Requirement: Prefers full, direct sunlight. Provide ample sunlight, especially in the morning and early afternoon.
- Maintenance: Low; minimal pruning required, mainly to remove dead or withered growth.
- Common Name: Notchleaf Ice Plant.
- Family: Aizoaceae.
- Origin: Native to South Africa.
- Cold Tolerance: Tolerates cold to a certain extent but thrives in warmer climates.
- Heat Tolerance: Tolerates heat well and can thrive in hot, arid conditions.
