PLANT:
- Beaucarnea recurvata, commonly known as Ponytail Palm or Elephant's Foot, is a distinctive succulent tree characterized by its swollen trunk base that tapers into a slender stem topped with a tuft of long, narrow leaves resembling a ponytail. Native to arid regions of Mexico, this plant is prized for its unique appearance and resilience.
- Water Needs: Low; allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Water sparingly, as it is adapted to drought conditions. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
- Light Requirement: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in cooler climates.
- Maintenance: Low; minimal pruning required. Remove dead or yellowing leaves as needed. Repot infrequently as it prefers to be slightly root-bound.
- Common Names: Beaucarnea recurvata, Ponytail Palm, Elephant's Foot.
- Family: Asparagaceae.
- Origin: Native to Mexico.
- Cold Tolerance: Moderately frost-tolerant; protect from prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures.
- Heat Tolerance: Tolerates heat well and thrives in warm to hot conditions.
