PLANT:

  • Agave victoriae-reginae (Queen Victoria Agave) forms a compact and symmetrical rosette of thick, dark green leaves. The rosette is often shaped like a perfectly symmetrical, spherical artichoke.
One of the most distinctive features of this agave is the striking leaf markings. The leaves are adorned with intricate white markings or striations along the margins, creating a visually appealing contrast against the dark green background.
Agave plants are monocarpic, meaning they flower once in their lifetime before gradually declining. The flower stalk of Agave victoriae-reginae can reach impressive heights, often exceeding the height of the rosette. The flowers are typically pale yellow or creamy white.
  • Water Needs: Low to moderate; allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Water sparingly in the winter months.
  • Light Requirement: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Thrives in bright, direct sunlight.
  • Maintenance: Low; minimal pruning required. Remove dead or damaged leaves as needed.
  • Common Names: Queen Victoria Agave.
  • Family: Asparagaceae.
  • Origin: Native to northeastern Mexico.
  • Cold Tolerance: Moderately frost-tolerant; protect from extended freezing temperatures.
  • Heat Tolerance: Highly heat-tolerant; thrives in warm to hot conditions.
