PLANT:
Phyllanthus mirabilis is a rare and enchanting caudiciform plant native to Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. It is best known for its dramatic, tree-like caudex and delicate, compound leaves that fold up at night, a fascinating nyctinastic behavior. The thick, woody base stores water, allowing it to thrive in dry conditions, while the slender branches give it a graceful bonsai-like silhouette. This species is deciduous, losing its leaves in winter before reawakening with fresh green foliage in spring.
Water Needs:
Low to moderate; water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Keep almost dry during dormancy when leafless.
Light Requirement:
Full sun to bright indirect light. Prefers several hours of sunlight daily for strong growth and healthy foliage.
Maintenance:
Low; plant in well-draining, gritty soil. Avoid overwatering and provide good airflow. Prune lightly after dormancy to encourage branching.

No widely used common names

Planted in a handcrafted Neraw vessel inspired by the raw landscapes of Anafi. The piece draws from Cycladic pottery traditions, with earthy textures, volcanic tones, and twin handles that echo ancient amphorae. Its weathered surface captures the dialogue between sun, sea, and clay — a tribute to the island’s timeless austerity.
