PLANT:
- Mammillaria elongata Red form, commonly called the Red Ladyfinger Cactus, is a small, cylindrical cactus species known for its unique clusters of slender stems covered with vibrant, reddish-orange spines. Native to central Mexico, this cactus grows in clumps and forms a dense mat over time, it produces small, pale yellow or pinkish flowers that form a delicate crown near the tops of the stems. This variety is low-maintenance and adds a bold pop of color with its distinct red spines.
- Water Needs: Low; water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water even less frequently in winter.
- Light Requirement: Full sun to partial shade. Bright light encourages healthy growth and spine coloration.
- Maintenance: Low; minimal pruning needed. Handle carefully due to sharp spines. Propagate by offsets, which root easily.
- Common Names: Red Ladyfinger Cactus, Mammillaria elongata 'Red'.
