PLANT
Euphorbia francoisii ‘Xiamen’ is a compact caudiciform Euphorbia with a sculptural swollen base and a gently leaning trunk that carries a dense crown of narrow, serrated leaves.
This plant reads like a miniature tree shaped by wind and drought, with a strong sense of movement despite its slow growth.
The foliage is leathery and dark green, often showing subtle bronze or reddish tones along the edges depending on light, adding depth to its silhouette.
Its presence is quiet but dramatic, a living sculpture that rewards patience and stable care.
Water Needs: Low.
Water sparingly during the growing season, letting the substrate dry out completely between waterings. In winter, keep almost dry.
Light Requirement: Bright indirect light to gentle direct sun.
Strong light helps maintain compact growth and better color on the leaves. Avoid prolonged harsh midday sun, especially behind glass.
Maintenance: Low.
Needs a very well-draining mineral substrate and careful watering. Keep the caudex dry and avoid moisture staying trapped around the base.
Common Names: François’ Euphorbia
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Origin: Madagascar (hybrid cultivar)
Cold Tolerance: Low.
Protect from temperatures below 10°C.
Heat Tolerance: Excellent.
Thrives in warmth and dry air when watering is controlled.
CERAMIC
Planted in a handcrafted Neraw ceramic vessel with a cratered, cellular texture that feels like cooled lava or weathered coral stone. The rounded volume and deep surface relief create a strong contrast with the plant’s delicate, serrated leaves, while the earthy, mineral tones visually anchor the leaning trunk. Together, plant and ceramic form a balanced micro-landscape, raw, tactile, and quietly architectural.
