PLANT:
- Euphorbia decaryi is a fascinating, low-growing succulent native to the rocky regions of southern Madagascar. It forms a spreading mat of twisted, wiry stems that emerge from a thick, woody caudex. The leaves are narrow, wavy, and dark green to reddish-brown, adding texture and depth to its appearance. During the growing season, it produces small, yellow-green cyathia (flowers) typical of the Euphorbia genus. This species is prized by collectors for its sculptural, bonsai-like form and resilience in dry conditions.
- Water Needs:
Low; water moderately during active growth (spring to autumn), allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Keep almost dry in winter. - Light Requirement:
Full sun to bright indirect light. Strong light enhances color and compact growth. - Maintenance:
Low; plant in well-draining, sandy soil. Avoid overwatering and protect from excess humidity. Handle carefully, as the sap can be irritating to skin. - Common Names:
No widely used common names - Family:
Euphorbiaceae - Origin:
Madagascar - Cold Tolerance:
Protect from temperatures below 10°C; not frost-hardy. - Heat Tolerance:
Excellent; thrives in hot, dry conditions with good airflow.
CERAMIC:
Planted in a handcrafted Neraw vessel with a distinct porous texture reminiscent of coral or cooled lava.
Formed from a highly grogged clay body and finished with a pale, volcanic glaze, the surface reveals a natural interplay between roughness and light. The vessel’s upward flare frames the plant’s flowing structure, creating a dialogue between density and air — between earth and motion.
