PLANT
Euphorbia ambovombensis is a rare caudiciform Euphorbia from Madagascar, characterized by its swollen, sculptural trunk and irregular branching crowned with thick, undulating leaves.
The caudex acts as a water reservoir, giving the plant a compact yet powerful presence, while the foliage introduces a softer, almost arboreal rhythm above.
Its leaves are fleshy, matte green, often with subtly rippled edges, creating a contrast between the rugged, aged trunk and the fresh seasonal growth.
The plant carries a strong sense of resilience and slow time, evoking landscapes shaped by heat, scarcity, and geological pressure.
Water Needs: Low.
Water sparingly during the growing season, allowing the substrate to dry out fully between waterings. Minimal water in winter.
Light Requirement: Bright indirect light to gentle direct sun.
Good light supports compact growth and healthy leaf development. Avoid prolonged harsh midday sun.
Maintenance: Low.
Requires a very well-draining mineral substrate and careful watering. Sensitive to excess moisture around the caudex.
Common Names: Ambovombe Euphorbia
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Origin: Southern Madagascar
Cold Tolerance: Low.
Protect from temperatures below 10°C.
Heat Tolerance: Excellent.
Adapted to high temperatures and dry conditions.
CERAMIC
Planted in a tall, handcrafted Neraw ceramic vessel with vertically carved texture that recalls eroded bark or weathered stone.
The cylindrical form elongates the composition, allowing the caudiciform trunk to emerge clearly while visually anchoring the plant’s height.
Earthy tones and layered surface marks emphasize the tactile quality of the clay, echoing the plant’s natural environment.
Together, plant and ceramic create a quiet but powerful composition, where time, material, and growth converge into a single sculptural presence.
