PLANT:

  • Echinocactus Cristata, a crested form of the classic Echinocactus genus, is renowned for its fascinating, wavy growth pattern that deviates from the typical barrel shape. This mutation creates fan-like structures with dense ridges covered in golden-yellow spines, giving it a sculptural and dynamic appearance. Native to arid regions of Mexico, this cactus is slow-growing and highly prized among collectors for its unique form. It thrives in well-draining soil and bright light. Though it rarely blooms, when it does, the cactus produces small, yellow flowers that add to its charm.
  • Water Needs:
Low; water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
  • Light Requirement:
Full sun to partial shade. Bright light is essential for maintaining its vibrant color and healthy growth.
  • Maintenance:
Low; requires minimal care. Handle with caution due to its sharp spines. Propagate by cuttings, although crest forms can be challenging to propagate.
  • Common Names:
    Crested Barrel Cactus, Fan Cactus.

    Cactaceae.
  • Origin:
Hybrid or mutation; parent species native to Mexico.
