PLANT:

  • Aloe aculeata is a striking succulent known for its thick, fleshy leaves covered in sharp, reddish-brown spines. Its name, "aculeata," means "sharp-pointed," referring to the prominent spines on its surface. Native to South Africa, this drought-resistant aloe thrives in arid environments and rocky terrains. In late winter to early spring, it produces tall flower spikes with bright orange to yellow tubular flowers, attracting pollinators like bees and birds.
  • Water Needs: Low; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
  • Light Requirement: Full sun to partial shade. Requires plenty of light to maintain its compact, healthy growth.
  • Maintenance: Low; grows best in well-draining soil and benefits from occasional  feeding in the growing season. Avoid excessive moisture to prevent rot.
  • Common Names: Red-Spined Aloe.
  • Family: Asphodelaceae.
  • Origin: South Africa.
  • Cold Tolerance: Can tolerate brief drops to around -2°C but should be protected from prolonged frost.
  • Heat Tolerance: High; thrives in warm, arid climates and can withstand intense sun exposure.
