PLANT
Adenia spinosa is a striking caudiciform plant native to eastern and southern Africa, valued for its swollen, bottle-like trunk and its sparse, architectural branching.
The thick, green caudex acts as a natural water reservoir, giving the plant a powerful, grounded presence that feels both ancient and resilient.
From this compact base, slender stems emerge irregularly, carrying simple, fresh green leaves that appear almost tentative, creating a strong visual contrast between mass and lightness.
This is a plant defined by restraint and structure, a living form shaped by survival rather than ornament.
Water Needs: Low.
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. Keep almost dry during dormancy.
Light Requirement: Bright indirect light to full sun.
Adequate light supports healthy growth and maintains the compact form of the caudex.
Maintenance: Low.
Requires a very well-draining, mineral-rich substrate and good airflow. Avoid excess moisture, especially around the base.
Common Names: No widely used common names.
Family: Passifloraceae
Origin: Eastern and Southern Africa
Cold Tolerance: Sensitive to cold. Protect from temperatures below 10°C.
Heat Tolerance: Excellent. Thrives in warm, dry conditions and tolerates heat well.
CERAMIC
Planted in a handcrafted Neraw ceramic vessel with a layered, rock-like form that evokes compressed geological strata.
The pale, mineral-toned body is interrupted by dark, volcanic accents that appear to seep through the surface, creating a raw, almost tectonic texture.
Its compact, weighty silhouette anchors the swollen caudex above, reinforcing the sense of a plant emerging from solid ground rather than resting in a container.
Together, plant and ceramic form a sculptural composition that feels elemental, quiet, and deeply rooted.
