PLANT:
Adenia glauca is a striking caudiciform vine native to southern Africa, admired for its smooth, greenish-gray, bottle-shaped caudex and delicate climbing stems. The thickened trunk serves as a water reservoir, allowing it to survive in arid environments. Its leaves are bright green and heart-shaped, often with a subtle bluish tint, while small yellow-green flowers appear along the slender vines in the warmer months. Mature specimens can live for decades, developing a beautifully aged patina on the caudex surface.
Water Needs:
Low; water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Keep nearly dry during winter dormancy.
Light Requirement:
Full sun to bright indirect light. Provide several hours of sunlight daily for compact, healthy growth.
Maintenance:
Low; plant in a fast-draining, gritty mix. Avoid overwatering and protect from excessive humidity.
Family:
Passifloraceae
Origin:
Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe)
Cold Tolerance:
Protect from temperatures below 10°C; not frost-hardy.
Heat Tolerance:
Excellent; thrives in hot, dry climates with good airflow.
CERAMIC:
Planted in a handcrafted Neraw vessel inspired by volcanic textures, with a dark, matte surface and raw, eroded contours. The form echoes ancient, weather–worn artifacts, while the asymmetrical handles give it a primitive, ceremonial presence that frames the plant as a living relic.
