PLANT CARE:
- Fenestraria rhopalophylla, commonly known as Baby Toes, is a unique and fascinating succulent native to the arid regions of Namibia and South Africa. Its name comes from the window-like translucent tips of its cylindrical, fleshy leaves, which allow sunlight to penetrate for photosynthesis while minimizing water loss. This adaptation helps it survive in sandy, nutrient-poor soils. The plant forms tight clumps and produces daisy-like white or yellow flowers during its growing season, adding charm to its already striking appearance. Perfect for containers or windowsills, this succulent is a favorite for its low-maintenance requirements and captivating look.
- Water Needs:
Low; water sparingly during the active growing season (fall and spring). Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Keep dry during dormancy in summer. - Light Requirement:
Bright, indirect sunlight or dappled light. Can tolerate some direct morning sun, but avoid harsh midday rays to prevent scorching. - Maintenance:
Low; thrives in sandy, well-draining soil. Avoid overwatering to prevent root and leaf rot. Fertilize sparingly during the growing season. - Common Names:
Baby Toes, Window Plant. - Family:
Aizoaceae. - Origin:
