PLANT:

  • Brachystelma plocamoides is a rare and fascinating caudiciform plant native to South Africa, belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It features a distinctive underground or partially exposed tuber (caudex) that gives rise to slender, trailing stems. During its growing season, it produces small, star-shaped flowers in shades of maroon to brownish-purple, often with fine hairs and an unusual, intricate form. Despite its delicate appearance, it is a hardy and drought-tolerant species that appeals to collectors of unusual succulents and caudiciforms.
  • Water Needs:
Low; water moderately during active growth (spring to autumn), allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Keep almost dry in dormancy.
  • Light Requirement:
Bright indirect light to partial sun. Prefers filtered light to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Maintenance:
Low; requires well-draining, sandy soil and a shallow pot to display the caudex. Avoid overwatering and protect from excess humidity.
